Streets of Growth issues statement calling for calm, unity and to stop the spread of misinformation

Dear young people and community members of Tower Hamlets,

In light of the recent unrest and violence that has erupted in some parts of the U.K. We understand that these events have raised concerns, fears and uncertainties among many of you, especially those who belong to ethnic and religious minorities.

We understand that there have been rumours and organised misinformation campaigns, which may have caused you to feel worried and anxious. These can also contribute to increased tension and division. We urge you all to remain calm, informed, and united, and not to let the hateful actions of a few  undermine our solidarity.

As a local youth intervention service, Streets of Growth is dedicated to supporting the diverse and vibrant community in Tower Hamlets. We are honoured to live and work in one of the most multicultural areas in the country, where people of different backgrounds, faiths, and cultures coexist and enrich our society.

We would also like to remind you that the recent incidents in Isle of Dogs and Bethnal Green are completely unrelated and are isolated events. We kindly request that you please do not share unverified information and respect the privacy of the victim’s family.
